2019 Wine Spectator Restaurant Award Winner

Our Restaurant at Winvian Farm was honored recently with a 2019 Award of Excellence from the magazine Wine Spectator. We couldn’t be prouder of the distinction, which we imagine regular diners of ours with an oenophilic bent won’t be a bit surprised by!

If you haven’t dined with us before—or if it’s been awhile—come stay here at our luxury Litchfield Hills property and take advantage of the exceptional wine cellar maintained at our on-site seed-to-table culinary destination.

The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

As Wine Spectator’s writeup on the 2019 winners notes, “The Award of Excellence recognizes restaurants whose wine lists feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Ranging in size from 90 selections to several hundred, these lists are well-focused and tend to emphasize discovery.”

Wine at the Restaurant at Winvian Farm: Integrating With Our Trademark Farm-to-Table Dining Experience

Those qualities do indeed describe the well-appointed wine cellar at the Restaurant at Winvian Farm, which harbors some 500 labels hailing from more than a dozen countries and 37 viticultural regions. From Burgundy to Sonoma County, from Tuscany to Washington’s Columbia Valley, these wines have been carefully (and lovingly) selected by our Restaurant at Winvian Farm sommelier: not only to provide a quietly transcendent epicurean experience in and of themselves, but also to pair seamlessly with Executive Chef Chris Eddy’s gourmet dishes.

Those dishes are founded upon the Restaurant at Winvian Farm’s commitment to sourcing hyper-local and seasonal ingredients, the vast majority of which are procured from our resort grounds: from our three acres of organic gardens, from our multiple greenhouses, from our orchard, apiary, henhouse, and root cellar. Besides the flavorful harmony between this cuisine and our wines, there’s a poetic connection: Just as Chef Eddy’s preparations evoke the very Litchfield Hills landscape within which you’re dining, the vino in your glass evokes the singular terroir—that environmental fabric of soil, bedrock, weather, and more that builds the character of the grape—of its provenance.

The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence wasn’t the only honor the Restaurant at Winvian Farm garnered in 2019: It was also the recipient, once again, of a coveted AAA Five Diamond rating, bestowed by the organization on the very finest restaurants and hotels it evaluates each year. Only about 0.2 percent of dining establishments annually reviewed by AAA make the Five Diamond cut, so it’s a major honor. (Winvian Farm also has the rare distinction of earning AAA Five Diamond classification not only for our restaurant but also our resort itself, which you can read more about here.)

We hope you’ll come stay with us in this New Year at Winvian Farm in northwestern Connecticut’s lovely Litchfield Hills, and experience what all the fuss is about at our seed-to-table restaurant (and its heralded wine cellar!).
