Best Fall Activities Near Winvian Farm

Every season’s lovely up here in the Litchfield Hills, but many locals and out-of-towners particularly swoon over autumn. After all, the fall colors of northwestern Connecticut are world-class, and the weather’s often postcard-perfect: ideal for (socially distanced) hikes, bike rides, and scenic drives.

Speaking of scenic drives, you’ve got a number of wonderful destinations for fall fun within ready reach of your luxury accommodations here at Winvian Farm. What follows are merely a few favorite places to go during this seductive season of blazing canopies, bluebird skies, and farm bounty while relishing the hospitality of our 113 historic acres. We’re profiling a couple of farms as well as two new—and fabulous—stores in our vicinity!

Angevine Farm (40 Angevine Rd, Warren, CT)

Established way back in 1868, Angevine Farm is a multigenerational family operation that—in addition to growing impressive ranks of Christmas trees—offers plenty of autumnal pleasures. Those include five pick-your-own pumpkin patches packed with numerous varieties of gourds, with outdoor pay stations facilitating social distancing. Throw in cider donuts, kettle corn, and the treasures for sale at the Harvest Barn Gift Shop, and you’ve got all the makings for a dreamy fall afternoon in New England!

Angevine Farm’s open from 12 to 5 PM on Fridays and from 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays till Halloween.

March Farm (160 Munger Ln, Bethlehem, CT)

Another family property passed down the generations, March Farm—which dates to 1915—offers its own pick-your-own pleasures thanks to its orchards and pumpkin patches: from Golden Delicious, Fuji, Cortland, Empire, and other topnotch apple varieties to the raw materials for the perfect jack-o-lantern. A perennial crowd-pleaser is the Hill Top Corn Maze.

March Farm is open for the fall season every day from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Grace (503 Bantam Rd, Litchfield, CT)

We’re excited to have a fantastic new outlet for local craftspeople in the form of Grace, a storefront launched by Grace Woodworking. Opened this past August, Grace features the incredible hand-made furniture of master woodworker Zach DeBisschop as well as the varied creations of other artisans: from painters and jewelers to leatherworkers and soap makers. It’s a great collaborative showcase and an opportunity to land yourself a completely one-of-a-kind souvenir or two from the Litchfield Hills.

Milton Market (14 Cobble Ct, Litchfield, CT)

Opened in 2019, Milton Market’s fast become one of our favorite local businesses. Fashioning itself as “a modern day general store,” the market offers a superb variety of products: home decor and furnishings, kitchenware, bath and beauty essentials, artwork, and much more. It’s a marvelously curated selection that spotlights plenty of local artists and artisans.
