Fall at Winvian Farm

As Temperatures Fall, Winvian Heats Up

September ushers in early fall in the Litchfield Hills. The days are still long, but the blue of the sky shifts from soft summer haze to cool cobalt. The air is crisp but not yet cold. The leaves stay green until October but their feel is distinctly different. It’s as if they too know change is on the horizon, a backdrop which will soon display an array of jewel-tones that somehow still surprises, year after year.

Guests tell us there is nothing quite like a Winvian fall, and the annual surge in bookings reflects our magnetic autumn energy. September delivers the perfect weather to tool around our family estate on a cottage bike, savoring the sun on your skin. September Saturdays offer indoor serenity as well, as we host a weekly morning yoga class to celebrate Yoga Month in the Gordon Brown House.

Fall Fun is Just Around the Corner

Whether you drive, walk, bike or hike, a delightful day in the Litchfield Hills is always readily accessible. September 12th-20th, Plein Air Litchfield unites regional creatives for eight days of painting that celebrates the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Spectate or BYOB (bring your own brush) for an unforgettable experience. If you prefer staying on site to wandering farther afield, Maggie’s Tavern will host its own plein air gathering on September 15th.

Sunday the 13th brings culinary professionals and gourmands together for one of the area’s favorite celebrations. Morris Farms hosts Savor Litchfield, an event that offers the chance to sample the rich flavors of local chefs and purveyors of fine food—all while giving back. A portion of ticket proceeds benefits local non-profits that make our area a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.

One of our favorite local treasures is just a leisurely walk from your cottage: the White Memorial Nature Center abuts our estate, giving guests easy access to its wealth of activities, extensive hiking trails, and unparalleled natural beauty spread over 4,000 acres. A sampling of September activities includes educational sessions, family-friendly guided hikes, a star-gazing session, and a group “happy hour hike” perfect for mingling with friends and raising spirits without ever taking a sip. A Season to Dine and Shine

Chef Eddy’s fall menu grounds itself in our ever-changing harvest. The garden’s summer abundance yields plates rich in fall flavor. The greenhouses offer fresh ingredients year round and as the seasons change, flavor profiles shift accordingly. In the skilled hands of Chef Eddy and his culinary team, the end result is consistently delicious.

Our Spa specialists recommend starting the new season with some pampering. Summer sun is hard on skin, and impending winter cold will take its toll as well. A fall facial blends restoration and preparation, leaving skin exfoliated, plumped and moisturized. Of course, massage is always in season, with aromatherapy and hot stone therapy options as ideal fall elevations. When you schedule your treatments, speak with our staff to ensure you make the most of current offerings custom tailored to your personalized needs.

When is the best time for leaf peeping?

This question is best answered by Mother Nature or tools that predict this year’s specific schedule. However, October through mid-November is our high season for travelers seeking fall color.
