Lime Rock Park
The Litchfield Hills are one of America’s tranquil corners, no question: a place to relax, to play outside, to soak up some fresh air and clear skies and maybe a bit of pampering. Giving you all that and more is our M.O. here at Winvian Farm, tucked as we are deep in this New England heartland.
That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t get a dose of high-octane action in Connecticut’s peaceful northwestern corner. A hop, skip, and a jump from our 113 acres lies Lime Rock Park, easily one of the most venerable road-racing circuits in North America.
A Pioneering Racetrack
Lime Rock Park was a mere two years old when it held the momentous 1959 run-through of the Formula Libre, which saw driver Rodger Ward outpace much pricier and flashier sportscars with his “midget car.” As the park puts it on its website, “Thanks to Lime Rock and the Formula Libre event, sports car road racing became a significant element of the American sporting scene.”
Hosting numerous races all year round, Lime Rock Park still sports the same iconic 1.5-mile track it debuted with in the 1950s, though it’s been painstakingly maintained and upgraded. There’s palpable history here, and also the timeless thrill of watching topnotch motorsports play out against the woodsy beauty of Lakeville.
Some Upcoming Lime Rock Park Action
Lime Rock Park will roar to life at the end of this month with the PWC Memorial Day Weekend event, which consists of eight races under the banner of the Pirelli World Challenge series. On June 17, the Sports Car Club of America holds its all-day New England Region races at Lime Rock Park. From July 20 through the 23rd, meanwhile, you can take in the high-speed show of the IMSA Northeast Grand Prix Weekend.
One of the perennial favorites at the racetrack, meanwhile, takes place Labor Day weekend (August 31 through September 4) with the Historic Festival 35, an absolute must for vintage-car fanatics. Old-school autos will put on a parade and then go head-to-head on the circuit—an unforgettable spectacle, to put it mildly.
