Fall In The Litchfield Hills

We love all the seasons here in the Litchfield Hills of northwestern Connecticut, but there’s no question that many of our returning Winvian Farm guests swear by the multicolored beauty and crisp seductions of fall.

It’s “leaf-peeping” season, for one, when our highland foliage puts on its world-class show. Then there’s the rich bounty of the harvest coming in—something our farm-to-table restaurant here at the resort features prominently.

If you’ll be joining us during this magical time of year, here are some of the events and activities at your disposal as a Winvian Farm guest!

Family Nature Day at the White Memorial Conservation Center

On September 28th, our wonderful neighbor the White Memorial Conservation Center will be putting on its 38th annual Family Nature Day, which draws folks from near and far for its grand celebration of the natural world. A slew of live animals will be part of the proceedings, including native reptiles and raptors, plus guided nature strolls, horse-drawn wagon rides, and no shortage of great eats.

This year’s Nature Day Raffle, which raises funds for the Conservation Center and closes September 25th, includes for its second prize a $1,500 gift certificate for Winvian Farm, just so you know!

U-Pick Farms in the Area

Now’s the time to partake of that age-old pleasure of picking your own apples, pumpkins, and other fall treasures from orchards and farms. Here’s a list of some of our favorite u-pick destinations within easy reach of Winvian Farm:

Take in Some Stirring Fall Views

As our hardwood trees and shrubs start putting on their mesmerizing color show, leaf-peepers can have an absolute heyday amid the lushly forested Litchfield Hills.

Among the best vantages for surveying the yellows, oranges, reds, and purples our broadleafs wear this time of year is the summit of Steep Rock, which serves up a beautiful prospect of the Shepaug River Valley’s Clamshell reach. Hike up to it in the Steep Rock Preserve.

Equally stunning fall-color views await you from 1,250-foot Waramaug’s Rock in the Maricostas Preserve, a lovely mosaic of upland forest, fields, meadows, and swamp.
