The Art at Winvian Farm
Many elements—historic and contemporary, natural and manmade, straightforward and intangible—go into the Winvian Farm experience. An intrinsic one, certainly, is art. Artistic spirit pervades our 18 uniquely designed cottages, for one thing, and lovely artwork comes spread throughout the entire property.
Today we’d like to spotlight a local artist whose work we’re currently featuring in our luxury Winvian Farm Spa, without question one of the centerpieces of our Litchfield Hills resort grounds.
Winvian Farm Artist Spotlight: Katie Ré Scheidt
The vivid new paintings you’ll find in the spa spring from the imagination and the brushwork of Katie Ré Scheidt, who moved to Connecticut’s Litchfield County in 2010 and lives with her husband and two children in the hamlet of Roxbury, not terribly far from Winvian Farm.
Scheidt spent a dozen years on Wall Street before reinventing herself as a professional artist, though making art has been a lifelong passion of hers; as a talented and inspired teenager, she spent 10 weeks in Florence honing her skills in classical figurative drawing. She specializes in abstract expressionist oil paintings and also frequently works in the field of portraiture and nudes.
Whether for shows or private commissions, she creates her richly colorful, full-of-life canvases within the history-drenched barn on her Roxbury property: a lovely, traditionally timber-framed structure built in 1954 as the workplace of Leonard Weisgard, a noted illustrator of children’s books. Today it serves as Scheidt’s own spacious and soaring studio, which she calls “The Fauve Barn.”
Scheidt’s paintings feature in private collections all across the country, from New York City to Chicago to California, and we’re immensely proud to display some at the Winvian Farm Spa. They distill this tranquil and elegant space’s beauty to an ethereal point, and certainly enhance the already blissful experience of any and all guests enjoying a high-end massage or other treatment here.
An Art Retreat at Winvian Farm
We hope you’ll check out Katie Ré Scheidt’s newly hung paintings in our spa, and that you’ll take a little time during your next rejuvenating stay with us here at Winvian Farm to admire the other artwork that enlivens our expansive slice of Litchfield Hills paradise. These pieces contribute their own tones of beauty to an aesthetic soundtrack also composed of the historic architecture of our 18th-century manor, the whimsical designs of our resort cottages, and of course the overall pastoral splendor of our wooded and meadowed acreage.
