Planning a Winter Wonderland Wedding
By Elizabeth Goslee, Events Manager
Fabulous as they are, summer soirees and leaf-peeping festivities don’t exhaust the possibilities when it comes to a dream wedding here at Winvian Farm. Crisp weather, snow-clad meadows, and crystalline starry nights offer all the makings of a magical and romantic ceremony! But while you iron out the details of your very own winter wonderland, warm up by taking these cold-weather wedding-planning tips to heart:
- Plan for Indoor Wedding Photos
Smiling out in the frosty air is fine for awhile, but before too long you’ll be majorly wanting a warm-up. We have multiple locations here at Winvian Farm for taking all your gorgeous wedding photos before and after the ceremony. Your wedding party (and your photographer!) will thank you.
- Choose a Dress With Sleeves—or Bundle Up in a Faux Fur Coat!
Hit the perfect balance of stylishness and comfort with a seasonally appropriate getup for the big day: Opt for a wedding dress with illusion lace sleeves. After all, long-sleeved wedding gowns are the new wedding accents! If you ask us, the best part of winter is the cozy accessories you get to wear—and your wedding is no exception. Wrap yourself snug in fashionable outerwear like a fur shawl or a leather jacket: warm-weather garments that’ll also serve as nice gifts for your bridal party!
- Keep Your Guests Nice & Comfy
Winter weather in the Litchfield Hills is both lovely and challenging. Whether you’re planning a ceremony for our property or at one of the local Litchfield County churches, keep your guests’ comfort level foremost in mind. Place a basket of cozy blankets on either side of the aisle for folks to grab as they take their seats, or drape the blankets over chairs for a charming and practical touch. Either way, they’ll make for cute keepsakes!
- Choose Specialty Seasonal Welcome Drinks & Cocktails
Another surefire way to keep your guests cozy? A warm drink! Incorporate a hot chocolate or warm apple cider bar into your wedding-day details, providing a tasty welcome beverage to be sipped on prior to and during your ceremony, or a signature cocktail during the reception.
- Follow the Sun
Another winter reality you’ll want to keep in mind is the sun’s limited shift up in the sky this time of year; you’ll want to plan outdoor photos strategically and structure your timeline around available daylight. Since the sun sets early during fall and winter, consider doing a first look and then snapping the rest of your wedding shots before the ceremony. Once everybody lays eyes on the photos from your Winvian Farm nuptials, it’s just about guaranteed that winter will be the new spring for weddings!
