Three Perfect Days at Winvian
Plan Your Great Escape
When you really need a break, planning a trip feels like one more thing on your burgeoning to-do list. Let our staff, guided by years of direct experience crafting luxury escapes, offer their picks for a three-day itinerary that will leave you relaxed, refreshed, and reconnected.
Day One: You’ve Arrived
As you pass through the gate to our family estate, you can feel your energy shifting. Our staff will greet you with a welcome drink. Unwind in front of the beautiful stone fireplace in Maggie’s Tavern as you transition from travel-mode to Winvian time or head directly to your private cottage.
As leaves or snowflakes fall, our Cottage Collection offers a wealth of viewing options. Seasonal favorites include the elevated vantage point of Treehouse, or the cozy comfort of our Log Cabin, ensconced at the edge of the White Memorial nature preserve. Camping’s floor-to-ceiling window brings the outdoors in, letting you take in the season without sacrificing the luxurious comfort Winvian is known for.
Enjoy a steam shower as evening falls and the New England air cools to a perfect sleeping temperature. Dress for dinner in casual comfort or elevated elegance. Both are always welcome at Winvian. Then dine at our Restaurant, where our seasonal menu is sure to delight. Linger over dessert. May we suggest a savory favorite, like our Humboldt Fog goat cheese, with honeycomb and grilled bread, or perhaps an indulgent dark chocolate pudding? After dinner, make your way back to your cottage and enjoy a nightcap by the fire before a restorative night’s sleep.
Day Two: Area Recreation and Onsite Relaxation
You awake refreshed, opening your window treatments to a view of our estate, beautiful in every season. You may choose to make a cozy cup of coffee and lounge in bed with a book, or you may want to venture out for a run and explore the grounds, or even the nearby preserve with its many hiking trails, interesting birds, and beautiful views.
Breakfast on fresh-baked delicacies and seasonal jams in the privacy of your cottage, or join us in the Woodland Room, with windows that overlook the garden. After breakfast, head into one of the surrounding towns to experience the height of New England charm. Nearby Washington Depot served as inspiration for the Gilmore Girls’ Stars Hollow, and its downtown green is worth a stroll, perhaps after a stop at the Hickory Stick Bookshop. Or venture into Litchfield and browse its many boutiques, stopping for lunch at a local favorite such as West Street Grill, serving modern American, or Meraki, known for healthy and hardy fare.
Return to Winvian and retreat to our award winning Spa. Indulge in our couples massage, with fireside champagne as the final touch for utmost relaxation. Explore our wealth of wellness offerings, or experience a facial custom-tailored to your skincare needs. Reach out to us in advance of your visit for assistance with your selections and booking.
After an afternoon well-spent, enjoy a casual dinner at Maggie’s Tavern. Our menu includes elevated classics using local ingredients, many sourced from our own garden or greenhouse. Flickering firelight pairs well with a glass of wine, or one of our house-crafted cocktails or specialty mocktails.
Day 3: Explore Our Onsite Exclusives
Take some time to savor the morning in your cottage. Wrap yourself in a blanket or put on a soft sweater and sip your favorite morning beverage in your cottage’s private outdoor area, weather permitting.
Start your day with a private yoga class, tailored to your skill level. After yoga, soothe your muscles in our sauna, complimentary for all guests. Grab something to eat at Maggie’s Tavern, or contact us to arrange a leisurely lunch in your cottage.
Afternoon is an ideal time to learn something new and explore your creative side. We’ve partnered with local artists to offer both a stained glass workshop, where you might make your own ornament or sun catcher, and a painting class—perfect for capturing the seasonal beauty of your surroundings. If you prefer the culinary arts, our cooking class showcases delicious favorites, like homemade pasta, or seasonal soup. You’ll leave with new skills perfect for bringing a taste of Winvian to your own kitchen.
Enjoy an apéritif at Maggie’s Tavern before dinner. Then head upstairs for one last meal in our AAA Five Diamond recognized Restaurant, where the menu changes daily and each meal is a distinctive delight.
Skip dessert in favor of a guest favorite: a Winvian bonfire and s’mores experience. Warm your hands in the fire’s golden glow, swap stories, and make memories while you savor rich chocolate, graham crackers, and gooey marshmallows cooked to taste. You’ll head to bed happy— ready to make a three-day escape to our family estate your new tradition.
