Winter Events near Litchfield Hills, CT
Winter casts a ravishing spell here in the Litchfield Hills, and with the combination of rustic beauty and premier luxury accommodations that defines Winvian Farm, you’re beautifully situated to experience the best of the season.
Within our greater Litchfield Hills neighborhood lies a whole constellation of winter destinations: Here are only a few of them!
White Memorial Conservation Center
We’ve highlighted before the wonderful outdoor and educational attractions of our ecologically minded neighbors the White Memorial Conservation Center. And wintertime among the woods and wetlands of this 4,000-acre preserve is enchanting.
Its seasonal calendar comes jampacked. On Sunday, December 17, for example, you can participate in the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count, a local version of the annual avian census overseen by the National Audubon Society all across North America. You’ll be amazed by how much birdlife flourishes this time of year in the rich forests and meadows of the Litchfield Hills.
Also on the docket at White Memorial Conservation Center is the One-Day Fun Day teaching kids about the natural world via outdoor activities, games, crafts, and quality time with live critters. The One-Day Fun Day for first-through-third graders takes place Thursday, December 28, and for fourth-through-sixth graders the next day.
Speaking of kids, those 12 years old and younger will enjoy complimentary admission to the center’s excellent museum as part of Museum Children Free Week from December 21 through 27.
A snowy carpet in the woods provides the best conditions all year for locating animal sign, and you’ll get a thrilling introduction courtesy of the Winter Wildlife Tracking clinic led by Andy Dobos on Saturday, January 6. Who knows what species—and what stories—you’ll run into out there?
Distillery & Brewery Happenings
What’s cozier and more festive on a winter’s day in the Litchfield Hills than a cheery libation at a local establishment? You’ve got some top-quality options with accommodations here at Winvian Farm.
At the Litchfield Distillery, for example—celebrated for its bourbon whiskey, gin, and vodka—you can take a tour and sample some of these fine artisan spirits Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 5 PM.
And if craft brews wet your whistle, be sure to check out Kent Falls Brewing Co. This American farm brewery creates a fabulous variety of beers, and you can survey the spectrum with a visit to the tasting room, open Fridays and Saturdays.
