We hate to say it, but sometimes you should heed your fear of missing out. Cucina Cipoletti’s A Tavola dinner series comes to only the finest venues, those known for superior culinary offerings and creative head chefs. And it comes just once.
This September, select guests joined us for an A Tavola dining experience. To fully grasp the magic of what transpired, indulge us in a brief Italian lesson. ‘A tavola’ literally means “to the table”—but that doesn’t begin to capture the phrase’s cultural significance. For Italians, it’s a call to connection and community, to breaking bread and making memories over unforgettably delicious food prepared with care. It means something more like “dinner’s ready!” or even “come and get it!” and “it” transcends the food, no matter how good it may be. If tavolo means table, the physical, utilitarian object at the center of most homes, tavola refers to a table that is set and awaiting the communal alchemy that occurs only when people gather around it. That one little vowel shift acts like a spell, transforming the physical table into the specific emotional state that we experience when dining with people we love.
A Collaboration with the Land
Cucina Cipoletti set this truly unique dining experience in our garden—the very spot where Chef Eddy draws inspiration for every dish deemed fine enough to serve in the Restaurant at Winvian. Atop a carpet of soft grass, a white linen tablecloth draped a rustic table, creating the perfect backdrop for a tablescape inspired by the red barn and silo visible on the horizon.
Winvian’s ties to the land and its bounty were a leitmotif for the feast that followed. Autumnal florals adorned the table and the surroundings. An abundance of petals in rich burgundies and pinks caught the day’s last light as the sun dipped below the trees. Soon, string lights and stars illuminated smiling faces, as conversation flowed along with thoughtfully paired wines. Glasses clinked together in toasts celebrating the gift of presence. At this table. In this moment.
The seasonal menu was a true collaboration between Chef Eddy and A Tavola. Our dining guests became active participants in blending our shared food-traditions as well. As dinner began, guests were given Cucina Cipoletti’s Sicilian sea salt before exploring the garden to hand select herbs for blending to their personal taste to create a take home gift as a remembrance of the night. The meal that followed included hand-cut pasta and sauces drawn from the garden, as well as a delectable dessert.
